Professor Claude Witz

Claude Witz, CISG-AC

Professor at the Robert Schuman University (Strasbourg III).

Professor at the University of Saarbrücken.

Professor of French private law, he is the director of the Centre juridique franco-allemand (The Centre of Franco-German Legal Studies), which is a small French law faculty forming a part of the German department of law.

 

Biography

Claude Witz's areas of teaching focus on the French law of obligations, comparative contract law in civil law countries and international commercial law.

Furthermore he is a regular visiting Professor at the University of Paris II (Panthéon-Assas).

His research explores the concepts of “fiducie” in French law and civil law countries, comparative studies of German and French private law, the CISG, and various fields of French private law (patrimoine, vente à réméré, etc…).

Professor Witz was a member of the Third Lando Commission on Principles of European Contract Law/ PECL (regime of obligations) where he was the co-reporter on the plurality of debtors and creditors.

Professor Witz took part in the CISG digest and is national correspondent of France to UNCITRAL.

He also regularly publishes reviews of case law of the CISG. Currently he is taking part in a project for a new French contract law under the auspices of the Académie des Sciences morales (Paris).
